Hobsons 2008-present

In June 2008 I began a six-month contract period with Hobsons, a firm based in Cincinnati, Ohio, that provides custom technology for education professionals. After that period I was offered a full-time position on their front-end development team as a designer.

While at Hobsons I have honed my HTML and CSS skills while working on over 600 clients' web forms and student portals and created over 300 HTML email templates. I have learned about coding for standards and compliancy. I also had the opportunity to work on some conceptual models for product upgrades, which allowed me to work with PHP and MySQL.

After two years, I was promoted to design team lead. While leading this team I helped to oversee the design half of a comprehensive client migration to a new code base which we called template 3.  For this, I managed three designers in our office and two developers in India. When our team was formed, less than one client a day was being moved to template 3. Our team averaged more than six clients a day, some clients having up to four products with multiple pages and designs for each product.

It was a massive undertaking, but we exceeded expectations at every turn and in less than seven months had moved 788 instances (separate installations of the base product). It was a great success.

Not long afterward, Hobsons had a company-wide reorganization and I was transferred to the Creative Services department as a web and traditional designer. For this team I create custom publications, web ads and web pages.

Independent Design 2004-present

As a freelancer I develop and maintain web sites for various music professionals and organizations using custom HTML, CSS, Javascript, j-Query, Dreamweaver, Flash, and the Ning social network platform. I have also written podcasts, edited audio files and designed artistic elements for sites and optimize them for web and print output. If clients need assistance, I provide them with training on content management of their websites.

On the traditional media side, I create posters and album art for my clients, and provided them with photography services. I also created the graphic identity for an organization called Jazz Alive.
